Frequently asked questions

SHOULD I BOOK WITH AN APPRENTICE?

Our apprentices are taught a skill and work on models before the apprenticeship begins. After that, they then practice those skills on clients. They are learning technique, products, pre & post care and require more time with services. Your retention and resultswill not be as good but if you're easy-going and willing to let them practice you'd be a great fit!

WHAT IS SUGARING?

Sugaring is a natural form of hair removal, made from sugar, lemon and water. A single ball of sugar is applied and used throughout the service, collecting hair and dead skin cells. Sugaring is great for sensitive skin as it doesn't stick to live tissue. You shouldn't feel tender or honestly like we did anything after your visit with us. It leads to permanent hair loss!

HOW IS SUGARING DIFFERENT THAN WAXING?

Waxing removes hair in the opposite direction of hair growth, causing hair breakage. It also sticks to whatever it's applied to...ouch! Wax also contains resins and produces a lot of waste so it isn't as environmentally friendly. Sugar can be used even on the most sensitive client, is a smaller molecule than wax so it gets deep into the pore to remove hair, build-up and dead skin cells. Also sugar is just above body temperature so it will never burn or take off skin.

DOES SUGARING HURT?

It definitely doesn't feel great! We have breathing techniques, offer you a shot of liquid courage at every appointment and have a desensitizing cream we can put on that helps a ton! Every body experiences pain differently but we've never had someone not be able to finish their session. Keep in mind the first session is the worst but gets sooo much better after that! By your second visit you should only have 1/4 of your hair grow back...totally worth it!

I'M GOING ON VACATION, ATTENDING AN EVENT OR GETTING MARRIED, WHEN SHOULD I GET SUGARED?

Try to get sugared three times before your trip or event, with the third sugaring being about 72 hours before. If you don't have that much time in between, plan to come in 72 hours before your event or trip. Everyone has 3 different growth cycles, so at your first visit we'll remove all of the hair that's long enough but your second growth cycle is usually right behind the hair that visible on top of the skin. The second visit removes that second and sometimes third growth cycle. You'll usually get about a week out of this sugaring but it's not until the third visit that we're able to get every hair out, giving you 2-2 1/2 weeks with soft, bare skin!

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE ANY EXTENDED AREAS?

If you have hair that grows right outside of your underwear lines you shouldn't need any extended areas. If you're one that doesn't like little, blond hairs on your hips/inner thighs or grows hair down the inside of the legs or on your booty cheeks (this is common!!) you'll probably want to add an extended thigh ring and extended or full buns. Same goes for happy trail or small of back.

WILL I BE PERFECTLY SMOOTH AFTER MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Probably not. Most people have three different growth cycles that come in one after another making it really difficult to time. If you've been able to grow your hair out 5 weeks you might be able to have all three cycles removed during your first appointment.

CAN I GET SUGARED WHILE I'M ON MY PERIOD?

YES! You might be a little more sensitive so feel free to take a Tylenol or Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your sugaring. We do ask that you switch out for a fresh tampon when you get here, making sure to tuck the string up into the vagina. Menstrual cups are a favorite among our clients! We cannot sugar clients who will not use a menstrual cup or tampon.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SUGARING?

Stop shaving for 3 weeks and stop exfoliating 48 hours before you see us. Moisturize your skin the week of your appointment. Drink 100 ounces of water the day before your appointment as well as the day of. Eat salty foods the night before your sugaring. If you can, take an Epsom salt bath a few hours before seeing us. Wear loose fitting clothing that isn't new. Don't apply moisturizing, creams, oil or deodorant the day of your appointment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AFTER MY SUGARING SERVICE?

Apply the cream we gave you the night of your sugaring and next morning. Take an Epsom salt bath with the bath tea we gave you, if you'd like. MOISTURIZE DAILY. EXFOLIATE DAILY with the salt scrub we gave you (after 72 hours). Refrain from exfoliating for 72 hours. Don't tweeze any little hairs remaining, go ahead and shave if needed until 2 weeks before your second sugaring.

WHAT IF I BREAKOUT AFTER OR SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY SKIN?

Don't worry, we've seen it all! When working with skin, weird things can happen. Your Esthetician will go over all common skin concerns before you leave your appointment. Review the 'fix it' guide given to you to remedy any common things that show up for you. Give us a call or send us an email! We're happy to help walk you through it!

I CAN'T GET IN TO SEE MY NORMAL SUGARISTA/ESTHETICIAN, HELP!
